Austin Carl Ewing 1865-1947

Austin [Carl] Ewing, 81, lifelong resident of Allamakee county, died Wednesday night at his home in Waukon following a long illness. Mr. Ewing was born in Ludlow township December 3, 1865. He married Martha [A.] White in October, 1894, and farmed in Post and Franklin township before they moved to Waukon.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Tom [Alice Mae] Paul of Rockwell, Mrs. Hattie [Elizabeth] [Amos] Haslip of Minneapolis, and one brother, Lafe Ewing of Postville. Four sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 1:30 p.m., at Waukon, with the Rev. A. H. Grossheim, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment was at Waukon [Oakland Cemetery].

Notes: Austin's parents were Thomas George Ewing and Elizabeth Ann Clark. His wife Martha's parents were E. J. White and Martha Crane. Martha died June 5, 1942 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martha's father was born in New York and her mother in Canada. Austin death is recorded in the Waukon courthouse in Register 5, Page 150 and Martha's is Register 5, Page 27. Austin's deceased brothers were James, Charles, John and Egbert. His deceased sisters were Hannah Douglass, Margaret Ewing, Marietta Anderson and Eliza Folsom.
