JAMES WILLIAM FORAN
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home for J. W. Foran, Postville, who passed away Tuesday, December 16. The Rev. C. E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, was in charge of the rites.
James William Foran, the son of James Foran and Mary Connell, was born in Highland township, Clayton county, Iowa on April 21, 1883. As a small child, he moved with his parents in Read township. He attended the rural schools in Clayton county and served as the secretary of the school board in Clayton county for 50 years.
He was married to Adelia Meyer on November 24, 1908. They farmed in Read township until 13 years ago, when he retired to Postville. They had the privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary three weeks ago. To this union were born two children, Harold of El Paso, Texas and Vernice, Mrs. Kenneth Breitsprecher of Farmersburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joseph of Minneapolis and one sister, Agnes, of Milwaukee.
He is survived by his wife; his two children, Harold and Vernice; four brothers, Edward of Minneapolis, Matthew and Patrick of Decatur, Illinois and Francis of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Mayme Monlux of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
He passed away at his home on December 16, 1958 at the age of 75 years, seven months and 25 days.
