HERBERT HUGO GASS

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Clermont Lutheran Church for Herbert H. Gass, 65, who passed away at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City on January 6. Rev. S. B. Knudsen was in charge of the rites. Military rites were conducted at the graveside in Postville by the American Legion, Clermont Post 375, in charge.

Herbert Hugo Gass, son of the late Pastor John Jacob Gass and Wilhelmina Borgelt Gass, was born March 25, 1890 at Postville and departed this life, January 6, 1955, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 65 years.

Mr. Gass was baptized by his father in 1890 and was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville.

The deceased was united in marriage with Flossie Fay of Postville on November 6, 1929. To this union were born four children, two daughters dying in infancy, John Charles and Patricia Ann, surviving with the widow.

Mr. Gass received his education in the Postville public school. He was a war veteran and served over-seas in World War I. Later he attended barber college at Davenport, and for several years was a barber at Denver.

Left to morn his passing are his widow and his two children, John and Patricia of Clermont; four brothers, Walter, Arthur and Harold of Postville, Roland of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Hertha) Erbe of Postville; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Emma, Rosa, Estell, Elenora and Flora and one brother, Edwin.

Attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. & Mrs. George Farmer, Mr. & Mrs. Emil Kluss, Mrs. Jennie Fay and Mr. & Mrs. Dean Farmer, all of Waterloo, and Mr. & Mrs. Frank Cahalan of Cedar Rapids.
