Mrs. HAROLD L. (Caryl Marion Bulman) GROTH
Caryl Marion Groth, 86, of Northwood, formerly of Postville, died Tuesday, April 30, 1996, at her daughter's home in Northwood, Iowa.
She was born on December 27, 1909, the daughter of Frank T. and Millie (Johnson) Bulman in Waukon, Iowa. She attended and received her education in the Waukon school system, graduating from Waukon High School in 1926. After completing her formal education she taught school in rural Allamakee and Winneshiek counties prior to her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Harold L. Groth on May 24, 1933, in Frankville, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1979.
After retiring from farming and related endeavors, she and Harold moved to Postville in 1975.
She was active in church and 4-H activities and was a charter member of the West Post Project Club. She was also a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville until moving to Northwood with her daughter and son-in-law in 1991, where she joined the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and knitting, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
Preceding in death were her husband, Harold, who died in 1979 and her brother, Donald, who died in 1995.
Survivors include her children, Elaine Meyer and her husband, John of Northwood, Ernest Groth and his wife, Juanita, of Thermal, Calif., and Janet Shelton and her husband, Bill, of Englewood, Colo.; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister, Leora (Bulman) Hall and her husband, Douglas, of Oklahoma City, Okla., as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Conner Colonial Chapel in Northwood with Rev. Mark Bents of First Lutheran Church in Northwood officiating.
Services were also held Saturday, May 4, 1996, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville with Rev. Mark Bents officiating.
Burial will be in the Postville Cemetery.
The family of Caryl Marion Groth has requested that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville or to First Lutheran Church in Northwood in her memory.
