ERNEST GROTH

Ernest Groth, well known and highly respected farmer of Post township, passed away on Sunday after an illness of several years. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the home at 1:30 o'clock and from St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. R. B. Garten officiating. Interment was made in the Frankville cemetery.

Mr. Groth was born in Gustrow, Mecklenburg-Stralitz, Germany, on October 6, 1862, and came to America at the age of 17 years with his parents and two sisters. After clerking in a store in New York City for three years, he came to Allamakee county, where he has been engaged in farming until the last few years when failing health forced him to retire.

On September 20, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Marie Kempke, who survives him in addition to the following five sons and two daughters: Walter of St. Paul, Minn; Arthur of Sioux Falls, So. Dak.; Luther of Spring Grove, Minn.; Fred and Harold of Postville; Esther of Sioux City, and Mrs. Gaylord Archer of Gray, Iowa. Sixteen grandchildren also survive him.

The sympathy of all who knew this splendid man goes out to those who were bound to him by a closer tie.
