ALPHA WILLIAM HANGARTNER
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 27, 1972, in Wickenburg, Arizona for a native Postville-Clermont-West Union man, Alpha William Hangartner, 65. Interment was in Genung Memorial Park near Yarnell. Mr. Hangartner suffered a coronary heart failure.
Alpha William was born May 29, 1906, son of Jacob, Sr. and Minnie Heckman Hangartner. August 8, 1928 he was united in marriage to Vera Meyer of Postville. To this union were born five children, four daughters who survive, and a son, Don Jacob, who died in infancy.
His life was spent in farming; for a period of time with the Wiley Construction Co., and remaining years in Iowa he worked as a laborer. He carried the nickname of "Handy" and many knew him as none other.
In 1961 the family moved to Arizona and settled in Yarnell, where Mr. Hangartner worked in Casa Grande and Flagstaff with a construction company, and later as a handyman in the vicinity.
He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, one sister, a son, a grandson, and two son-in-laws, Paul Bement and Harry Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Vera; his daughters, Glenice (Mrs. Duane Thompson) of Postville; Mrs. Paula Bement of West Union; Vera Allene (Mrs. Harlan Schultz, Jr.) of Dewar; and Mrs. Darla Anderson of Congress, Arizona; his 95 year old mother, Minnie Hangartner of Postville; two brothers, Jacob Hangartner of Onalaska, Wis. and Richard Hangartner, Postville; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Lubka of Onalaska, Wis., Mrs. Elizabeth Westcott, Postville, and Mrs. Harris (Isabell) Kjosa, Clermont; also thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
