Mrs. GEO. (Abbigal McGoon) HARTWELL 1863-1943

HARTWELL, MCGOON, BEAVAN, FREEMAN, APPLEGARTH

HARTWELL, Abbigal Celestial, daughter of David and Frances MCGOON, was born April 4, 1863 near Rossville, Allamakee County, Iowa and died July 24, 1943 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. H. BEAVAN, near Cold Springs, Missouri, after about four months of intense suffering.

She was married to Burton FREEMAN on January 1, 1880; he died November 19, 1887, at Independence, Missouri. To this union three sons were born. The elder, Walter David, preceded her in death. Carl Burton lives near Boone, Iowa and Roy Harold at Fargo, North Dakota.

In July 1890 she married Frank APPLEGARTH who also died. One son, Leo Frank, now of Dasey, North Dakota, was born to them.

On November 25, 1899 she married George E. HARTWELL, who died July 31, 1926. To this union one daughter was born, Audrey Mary. It was with this daughter that she spent most of her last years.

She was baptized in 1882 by Rudolph Etzenhouser and although isolated most of the time, she taught her children the gospel. Besides her children, she leaves sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many friends.

The funeral sermon was by Reverend A. M. Halford and burial was in the cemetery near Brushyknob, Missouri.
