Grant Hartley Dies of Injuries
Grant R. Hartley, 63, died Friday, Sept. 1, 1978 in LaCrosse Lutheran hospital as a result of injuries received in an auto accident August 24, 1978.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 4, 1978 at First Presbyterian church Waukon at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. William Tjaden officiated and burial was in the Oakland cemetery.
Pall bearers were Dave Hartley, Steve Hartley, George Hartley, Jr., Bob Hartley, Jr., Lloyd Weber and Daryl Brown.
He was born May 15, 1915 in Church to George and Grace Rowe Hartley. He married Esther Beneke Sept. 8, 1937 in New Albin.
He attended local schools, was a retired farmer and worked at Herman Appliance. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Hartley is survived by his wife, three sons, John of Postville, George of Marshalltown, Wis., Glenn of Merrill, Wisconsin, seven grandchildren and one brother Robert of New Albin.
Martin funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Services for Grant Hartley
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon for Grant Rowe Hartley, who died in September 1, 1978 at the La Crosse Lutheran Hospital.
He met with an auto accident on August 24, 1978 and sustained severe injuries from which he never recovered. He was born on May 15, 1915 to George and Grace (Rowe) Hartley on the old Hartley farm near the Mt. Hope Church in French Creek township. He attended the local schools.
He married Esther Beneke of near Eitzen, Minn. on September 2, 1937. They farmed in Union City township near New Albin until 1957, when they moved to Waukon. He was baptized in the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, later transferring his membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. He was a member of the Waukon Chamber of Commerce and was employed by the Herman Appliance Store in Waukon.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, John of Postville, George of Marshalltown, and Glenn of Merrill, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Robert, of New Albin.
