AGED WAUKON MOTHER SUMMONED BY DEATH

The long early pilgrimage of Mrs. M. B. Hendrick came to a close Saturday morning, July 3, 1937, on her 91st birthday. Although an invalid for many years and unable to get about her home without assistance she was a remarkable old lady as her mind was alert and active to the last and her hands were always busy.

Amelia Gibson Hendrick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Gibson, was born in Lyons, Mich., July 3, 1846, where she grew to womanhood and in 1863 was united in marriage to Myron B. Hendrick. They came to Allamakee county in 1864, first settling in Postville and later in Waukon which had since been her home.

Five children were born to this union, two of whom preceded the mother in death, a son Thode who passed away in 1882, aged 16, and Mrs. Theo Burgess of Ingalls, Kansas, on December 12, 1934.

Those who survive are Mrs. Maude Volding of Minneapolis; Max, Hot Springs, Arkansas; and Burt of Waukon, who with his wife gave his mother tender care in her declining years. There are ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Deceased was reared a Quaker.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon on the beautiful lawn at her home, conducted by Rev. J. R. Lindbloom of the Center Baptist Church. The Legion Auxiliary quartette, Mmes. P. D. Cota, J. F. Kepler, G. B. Richter and E. F. Pieper, rendered two selections.

Burial was in Oakland Cemetery beside her husband who died on August 14, 1914.

The pall bearers were: Dudley Hale, Albert Sander, Bernard Schwarzhoff, D. F. Duggan, Gordon O'Brien and W. H. Hiehaus.
