Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Bachtell Kamp were held Friday, Oct. 17, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bridget Catholic Church at Postville. the Rev. Leo Riley officiated. The organist was Kathy Fassbinder, with special music by St. Bridget Choir. The mass server was Kyle Klepper. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville cemetery.

Catherine "Kate" (Mann) Bachtell Kamp, was born November 25, 1913, at Castalia, Iowa. She was the daughter of Edward F. and Anna (Wiltgen) Mann. "Kate" died at her home on Oct. 14, 1997 at her home in Postville after a sudden illness. She was 83.

She was baptized at St. Francis DeSales Church in Ossian and after attending grade school in Castalia, attended St. Francis DeSales High School for three years. "Kate" was graduated from Postville High School with the class of 1932.

On September 28, 1935 she was married to Ralph W. Bachtell. They had two sons, Keith and Stephen. The couple farmed north of Postville. "Kate" also worked as a waitress in many cafes in Postville and had served as the manager of the Koffee Shop for several years. Ralph died on September 23, 1968.

On August 14, 1992, she was married to Duane W. Kamp at Postville. Duane died on December 27, 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one stepson, Col. Robert Bachtell and two sisters, Laura Ekstrum and Helen Wilson.

"Kate" is survived by her sons, Keith Bachtell and his wife Sandra of Des Plaines, IL and Stephen and Jan of Mt. Prospect, IL, four grandchildren, Britt Bachtell, Brent, Lauren and Brian Bachtell and 3 great grandchildren, Tiffany, Melanie and Corey Bachtell, her stepchildren, Charles (Betty) Bachtell of Berwyn, IL, Janice (Ned) Pearson, Knoxville, Iowa; Daryl D. (Diane) Kamp of Farley, Iowa and Randy (Paula) Kamp of Osage, Iowa. She is also survived by her sisters, Marie Gordon of Monona, Barbara Hallberg of Oakland, Calif., Louise Ryberg of Detroit, Mich. and a brother, Fred Mann of Osage.

Catherine was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville.
