ARTHUR MELBORN LARSON 1908-1994

Arthur Melborn Larson, son of Martin and Anna (Sorenson) Larson, was born Sept. 24, 1908 near Decorah, Iowa. He died Saturday, March 26, 1994 at the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. He was 85.

He attended the country school near his home. On May 17, 1941 he married Ivanell Schlitter at the home of Art's sister, Myrtle, at Lone Rock, Iowa. To this union, three sons were born.

Art and Ivanell farmed south of Monona for a year, then moved to a farm northeast of Postville in Post Township. In 1962 they moved to their present home in Postville. Art was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother who died at birth, a brother, Lloyd, and three sisters, Violet Ramsey, Madeline Priebe and Myrtle Priebe.

Surviving are his wife, Ivanell; three sons, Dale and his wife Shirley of Waverly, Gary of Lansing, and Merle and his wife Jane of Milwaukee, Wis.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Selmer Larson and his wife Florence of Decorah, Leon Larson and his wife Rose of Rochester, Minn. and Merton Larson and his wife Beverly of Mason City; and four sisters, Gladys Gayle, Esther Kruse, Ella Otteson, and Arlene and her husband Ray Thompson, all of Decorah.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 29, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Rev. Reuben Tjaden officiating. Special music was provided by Carol Gerdes, soloist and Beverly Bacon, organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Monona Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Dwayne Cakerice, Larry Downing, Barry Twait, David Schlitter, Larry Thompson and Tom Otteson.
