October 2008 - Note! It has been confirmed by Mary Durr (the contributor) that this obituary was typed exactly as it appeared in the newspaper. Steve May writes: "The deceased is incorrectly identified as Reuben C. May. The obit is actually for Roan C. May who died 02 May 1928. Reuben G. May was born in 1858 (too young to serve in the Civil War) and died in 1934. My g-grandfather's brother, Roan Clark May (R. C. May), served as a member of Company B of the 27th Regiment of Iowa Infantry Volunteers. Another brother, Reuben Garvine May (R. G. May) did not serve in the Civil War (at least not to my knowledge)."

The death of Reuben C. May, aged 90, one of New Albin's first settlers, and one of the few remaining Civil war veterans of that place, occurred on Tuesday last, says the Waukon Democrat. One of his two sons is Attorney R. L. May of Lansing, and a surviving daughter, Mrs. Steele, resides at New Albin.
