Mrs. AUGUST H. (Wilhelmine Elise Marie Krambeer) MEYER 1863-1923

Funeral Services for Mrs. August H. Meyer, 90, were held Friday afternoon at 1:45 p.m. from the Schultz Funeral home to St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. R. C. Schlueter officiating. Burial was in the Monona City cemetery.

Mrs. Meyer died at her home, Monday morning, August 10, at 11:15 a.m. She had enjoyed good health throughout her life until she fell about two years ago and fractured her right hip. Since that time she had been confined to a wheelchair and was bedridden the last several weeks. Four weeks before her death she suffered a stroke, which paralyzed her right side and left her speechless.

As Wilhelmine Elise Marie, she was born a daughter of John Krambeer and Dorotheia Schultz at Menckendorf, Meckenberg-Schwerin, Germany, April 6, 1863. When she was 3 years old her family emigrated to America and settled on a farm near Garnavillo. Later the family moved to another farm near Clayton Center.

She was married to August H. Meyer in Postville, September 20, 1886, by Rev. Gass. They farmed near Postville for 3 years, and before that they had farmed north of Hardin for thirty years. In 1918 they retired to Monona. She was an honorary member of the Ladies Aid society at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church since her 80th birthday anniversary.

She is preceded in death by her husband, youngest son and one grandson. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Henry (Amanda) Kruse, of Lily, South Dakota; three sons, Gustav of Monroe, Wash., and Ben & Irvin of Monona; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Lydia Pufahl and Mrs. R. E. Wirkler. Mrs. George Heins Jr. was the organist.

Pallbearers were: Charles Ultah, Vern Zieman, Emil Aulerich, Otto Mielke, Fred Funk and R. C. Bugenhagen.
