MILO FRED JOHN MEYER
Milo Fred John Meyer, son of William C. and Eda (Reincke) Meyer, was born August 9, 1910, on the family farm in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, August 7, 1991 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, rural, Postville. He had reached the age of 80 years, 11 months and 28 days.
He was baptized October 23, 1910. On August 31, 1924, he was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Schmidt. Milo was graduated from the Postville High School in 1929.
On June 4, 1939 he was married to Bernice Hanson by the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig. To this union, a daughter Carol, was born.
Milo has been in the plumbing and heating business for 60 years. He began his plumbing career in 1930 when he went to work for Hill Hardware in Postville. In 1949 he went into business for himself "where he discovered that the stress of seeing that a job got done was often harder than the job itself."
He is preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Michael and Craig Deering and four brothers, Alvin, Arno, Victor and Clarence.
Surviving are his daughter, Carol and her husband, Charles I. Deering of rural, Postville; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Charles F. Deering and his wife, Kim and their daughter Kelsie of Postville; Lori and her husband, Jay Podzimek and their children, Lindsey and Leah of Fairfax, IA; Stacy and her husband, Phil Tharp of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Lisa and her husband, Shannon Schultz and their son, Chase of Knoxville, IA.
Milo was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, had served on the church council and was presently serving as an usher. For many years he had been sexton of the Postville Cemetery. Milo had also been a member of the Postville Volunteer Fire Department and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
The funeral was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Allamakee Co., IA on Saturday, August 10, 1991.
