Rites Held For Mrs. Fred Gordon

Eva Seybert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Seybert, was born on August 3, 1883, south of Postville, Grand Meadow township. Her grandparents came from Ohio and Indiana as early settlers here buying land from the government at $1.25 per acre. She spent her early years around Postville and received her education in a rural school.

She was united in marriage to Fred Enoch Gordon on May 6, 1902. They were the parents of two daughters, Ruth and Gretchen, and one son, Keith.

Mrs. Gordon was active and helped in the work of the Women's Association of the Community Presbyterian Church. She also helped with the Hospital Auxiliary work.

On Tuesday, July 12, at 10:30 p.m., Mrs. Gordon passed away in the Good Samaritan Home, Waukon, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and nine days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred E. Gordon on September 19, 1948 and daughter, Gretchen on April 3, 1938. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Mrs. Peter Ryken) of Latimer, and her son, Keith Gordon, of Monona, four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 15, 3:00 p.m., at the Schutte Funeral Home, the Rev. Dick Harberts, pastor of the Community Presbyterian Church, in charge. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
