Lorenz Kuhse

Funeral services for Lorenz Kuhse were held Tuesday, August 11, 1992 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated. Ronald Meyer sang the solo, "In the Garden," accompanied by Joann Martins, organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers were Leo Foels, Keith Carlson, Leighton Schlake, Durwood Schutta, Otto Miene, George Wander, Ray Schara, and Verdean Houg.

Casket bearers were Dean Peterson, Wayne Benzing, Clifford Kuhse, Lynn Folsom, Dennis Kohrs, Arden Benzing, Cecil Kuhse, and Marvin Block.

Lorenz Rudolph Carl Kuhse, son of Fred and Anna (Meyer) Kuhse, was born May 1, 1910 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Postville, Iowa. He passed away Friday, August 7, 1992 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. He had reached the age of 82 years, 3 months and 6 days.

He was baptized June 5, 1910 by the Rev. Kuehne and confirmed August 16, 1925 by the Rev. Finck, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Lorenz attended the Postville Schools.

On April 6, 1937 he was married to Ivanelle Becker in the home of her parents at rural Luana. To this union five children were born. He farmed in the Postville area all of his life. In 1971 they moved to their present home on Lull Street.

Lorenz as a life-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, serving on the Church Council and the Building and Property Committee. He had also been a member of the Whistling Bit Saddle Club, the Postville Creamery Board and the Heins and West Grove School Boards.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two daughters in infancy; a son, Allen who died in 1988; one brother, Victor Kuhse; and 5 sisters, Lillian Braun, Hulda Block, Helen Peterson, Alma Kuhse and Orma Benzing.

Surviving are his wife, Ivanelle; a daughter, Dorothy and her husband, Wally Embretson of Newhall, IA; a son, Cloy and his wife, Ardie of Postville; a daughter-in-law, Ann Kuhse of Mechanicsville, MD; 7 grandchildren, Susan and her husband, Colin Gage, Gary Kuhse, Dawn and Michael Embretson, and Kyle, Jodi and Kraig Kuhse; a brother, Milo Kuhse and his wife, Opal; and two sisters, Hilma and her husband, Harlin Miller of Monona, and Pearl, and her husband, Charles Folsom of Waukon.
