Leonard J. Miller, 81, of Waukon, died Saturday, July 31, 1999 at Veterans Memorial hospital in Waukon, IA, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon.

Leonard Jasper Miller was born on October 16, 1917 on the rural Waukon farm of his parents, Frank D. and Maude E. (Livingood) Miller. He attended Ludlow #7 rural school.

On March 21, 1942 he married Ruth Hansmeier at the Zion United Church of Christ parsonage in Waukon.

Leonard farmed all of his life in addition to a variety of other jobs. He worked in the John Deere foundry in Waterloo, hauled canned milk, sheared sheep, was a yardman at UBC Lumber Yard in Waukon, drove truck for R. J. Cooney, was a carpenter and did a lot of trapping.

Leonard was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon where he was baptized and confirmed, and also the Allamakee County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing, and spending time outdoors looking for ginseng. He also liked playing cards and dancing.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Lottie, his brother Frank C. Miller, 2 sisters, Cynthia Ludeking and Abbie Westerholm, 2 step-sisters, Dorothy Rose and Elizabeth Carwick and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Berg.

Survivors include his wife Ruth, 3 sons, Charles and wife Jean of Corvallis, OR.; Dennis, and wife Karla, and Clint, both of Waukon, 3 daughters, Sharon, and husband James Boland, and Janice and husband Larry Ramstad, both of Decorah and Rhonda and husband Kirby Cahoon of Waukon, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were Troy Ramstad, Mark Boland, Jonathan Miller, David Miller, Blair Cahoon, Mike Miller, Jerry Berg, Jodi Miller, Renee Boland, Joan Berg, Nicole McCasland, Stephanie Radloff, Kristan Miller and Megan Cahoon.
