Mrs. ELLIOTT (Vera Stafford) NELSON

Funeral services for Vera Margaret Nelson, 77, were held Friday, Jan. 9, 1981 at 10:30 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. The Rev. Dennis E. Morey officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Luana Cemetery.

Vera Nelson, daughter of William and Elinor (McShane) Stafford, was born Sept. 1, 1903 in Linton Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. She died Jan. 7, 1981 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

After the death of her parents she made her home with the Arthur Jones family. She attended country school and then graduated from Waukon High School in 1921. Vera taught a rural school and then attended Upper Iowa University for two years. She taught at Maynard for three years and then three years at Luana and also substituted at Waterville for a short time.

June 4, 1927 she was married to Elliott Nelson at the Methodist parsonage in Waukon by the Rev. E. I. Selden. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mrs. Leon (Iva) Henderson.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Allan (Beverly Jean) Bacon and Mrs. Hilery (Joyce Ann) Heins, both of Postville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Forest Mills and Luana Methodist churches until becoming a member of the Presbyterian Church in Postville in 1975. She was also a member of the Luana Ladies Aid and Naomi Circle of the Community Presbyterian Church.
