Ann Elizabeth Anderson Overeen, 88, passed away Friday, October 11, 1996, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Ann was born in Oelwein, Iowa on July 6, 1908, the daughter of Emil and Hilda (Olafsson) Anderson, who had emigrated from Sweden.

Ann attended First Christian church in Oelwein during her youth and was a 1926 graduate of Oelwein High School. She worked at the J. C. Penny Company in Oelwein following high school.

Ann was married to Harry L. Overeen on June 12, 1932. They lived in Traer and Cedar Rapids before moving to Postville in 1936. Harry died in 1976.

Ann worked for many years at Anderson's Clothing in Postville, with her brothers, Hilbert (Andy) and Bob, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and active in the Women's Association.

Ann was also a long-time member of the Postville Commercial Club and the Tri-City Country Club. Ann loved playing cards and socializing with her friends around Postville. She also enjoyed craft work and crocheting, and was an avid football and basketball fan. Ann was a keeper of her family's traditions. She took pride in everyone's coming and goings, keeping up with letters, cards, and conversations. Devoted to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Ann was never too busy to spend time with them. Family gatherings were special occasions for her to catch up on news, play cards or dominoes, and prepare favorite foods with love.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry, three brothers, John, Robert and Hilbert, two sisters, Ruth (who died at age 2) and Christine (Mrs. Howard Borland).

She is survived by her daughter, Janet and husband, Richard Deeney, of Marion, IA, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren, Dennis Deeney and wife, Bobbie and Amanda, Chelsea, Erica and Derek of Kansas City, MO; David Deeney and wife, Cathy and Nathan and Elizabeth of Marion, IA; Denise Deeney of Chicago, IL and Debra Deeney of West Des Moines, IA; two sisters, Esther and husband, Alfred Day, of Moline, IL and Ellen and husband, Marvin Solomon, of Alexandria, VA, two sisters-in-law, Gwen Anderson of Burke Center, VA and Wilma Anderson of Postville, IA and many nieces and nephews.

Interment: Postville Cemetery.
