Maria Ruckdaschel, the daughter of Emil and Laura Lauwaert, was born August 30, 1927 in Belgium. She passed away Saturday, July 22, 2000 in the Central Community Hospital at Elkader, Iowa. She had reached the age of 72 years, ten months and 22 days.

Maria graduated from high school and for a short time continued her education in Belgium. On November 28, 1958 she was married to Orville Ruckdaschel in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa by the Rev. Glen Utterbeck.

The couple lived in Postville and then moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1972. They moved to Monona in 1983. Maria worked as a housekeeper for many years. She became a resident of the Great River Care Center in McGregor in 1992.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. She is survived by her husband, Orville, and other relatives and friends.

Maria was received into membership of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville on November 8, 1959, by the Rev. Charles E. Witt.

Casketbearers were Cletus Hagensick, Milton Gramlich, Todd Cahoon, Robert Miene, Jason Ferguson, James Schulte.
