Rites Held For Mrs. H. E. Roberts

Funeral services for Mrs. Harvey Roberts were held in the community Presbyterian Church, Postville, on Thursday, September 12, 1968, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dick Harberts officiating and the Rev. Walter Martin assisting. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Florence Marston, daughter of Bert and Nettie Kerr Marston, was born on December 2, 1891, on what was then the Baily Farm southeast of Postville. At about the age of four years, the family moved to a farm on Henderson Prairie, southwest of Postville. She attended first grade in the Henderson Prairie School. About 1906 the family moved to Postville, which has been her home. Florence graduated from the Postville High School in 1910, from Grinnell College in 1914 and furthered her education at the University of Chicago and Iowa State Teachers College, now University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. She taught school in Greeley, Manson, West Waterloo, and Postville, Iowa.

Florence Marston was united in marriage to Harvey E. Roberts on January 3, 1924. This union was blessed with one child, Hall Roberts. Later two children were adopted, Frank and Nancy. Mrs. Roberts has been active in her home, community, and the church. She taught Sunday School Classes from 1920 until 1965 -- 45 years. She was ordained and installed as an elder April 21, 1940, and served until January 1, 1949. She was president of the Presbyterian Women's Association for three years; president of P. E. O., Chapter FT, for three years; president of Monday Club for two years.

Mrs. Roberts passed away at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, on Tuesday, September 10, 1968. She reached the age of 76 years, nine months and eight days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Marston; a brother, Paul Marston; and her husband, Harvey Roberts on October 30, 1949.

She is survived by three children; Hall Roberts, Postville; Frank Roberts, California; Mrs. Nancy Bright, Houston, Texas; a brother, Karl K. Marston, New Orleans, Louisiana; a sister, Mrs. Keith (Barbara) Smith, Jasper, Arkansas; five grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
