Services Held Last Thursday for Mrs. Edward Fitzgerald

Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing Thursday morning at ten o'clock for Mrs. Edward Fitzgerald whose death was briefly mentioned in last week's issue of the Journal. She passed away just before noon Monday at the Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Waukon where she was a patient for a couple of weeks with a severe heart condition.

As Kathryn Whalen she was born in Lafayette township on August 30, 1893, a daughter of Mary Manning and William Whalen, pioneer residents of that community. Over fifty-five years ago she was united in marriage to Edward Fitzgerald and they farmed in Lafayette township before moving to Olivia, Minn. shortly after the first World War and returned to the New Albin vicinity in the early 1920's. For the past thirty years they have made Lansing their home and Mr. Fitzgerald preceded his wife in death in 1958. Her parents and several brothers and sisters also preceded her in death Left to mourn her passing are two sons, Carl of Waukon and John, of Pensacola, Fla., and one daughter, Ellen, Mrs. J. Gordon Heins, of Jackson, Mich. Other immediate survivors include one sister, Nellie, Mrs. William Bohrer, Milwaukee, Wis. and one brother, Vincent Whalen, of Florence, Minn. besides several grandchildren.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was a truly devoted Catholic wife and mother whose home and church were uppermost in her daily activities. She was a member of the Rosary Society and honorary pallbearers from the organization were mesdames Gene Brennan, Mary C. Mullarkey, Agnes Mullarkey, George Mettille, Clara Guider and Miss Vernie Fest.

Father Wilfred Richard offered the Mass of Requem and said the final prayers at the graveside in Gethsemane Cemetery where interment was made in the family lot. Active casket bearers were Milton Wild, Thomas Kerndt, Leon Hosch of New Albin, Clarence Knopf, Victor Johnson and Robert Whalen of Lafayette township.
