Obituary in Lansing paper of December 27, 1911:
Mrs. Ed. Fitzgerald
On Friday, December 22, the spirit of Mrs. Ed. Fitzgerald winged its flight to that haven of rest beyond the stars. That sweet, gentle soul, tired of life's pilgrimage willingly and cheerfully laid down the burden of life. She first saw the light of day, March 9, 1847, in county Limerick, Ireland. Came to this country in 1869, residing in New York CIty for five years and coming to Allamakee county in the summer of 1874. She was united in marriage to Edward Fitzgerald, on the 12th day of Oct. 1874. She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, two sons and two daughters, namely Mrs. J.J. Crowe and Mrs. Frank Marley of Harpers Ferry and Tade and Ed, at home. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a good faithful friend and a splendid neighbor. Her charity was boundless. The funeral was held Sunday, December 24, over 75 teams following the remains to Wexford cemetery where she was laid to rest beside one son and one daughter, who preceded her to the grave in infancy. May the peace that is known only beyond the grave be hers and may her soul rest in peace
