STELLA SAMS 1884-1957

Stella Sams, daughter of James Sams and Charlotte Folsom Sams, was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa, December 6, 1884. She passed away at the Community Hospital in Postville, Saturday, March 23, 1957 at the age of 72 years, three months and 17 days.

The family home was on a farm north of Postville for many years. Stella Sams attended public school in Postville and upon graduation from Postville high school she enrolled at the University of Dubuque. She completed a teacher's course and taught a number of years in the rural schools of Allamakee county. In 1920 Stella Sams made her home in Postville with her brother Richard Daniel Sams. Postville was her home for 37 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Alice, Julia and May, and a brother, Richard Daniel who died on September 17, 1954.

She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and was a loyal supporter of the Women's Association of the church. Funeral services were held at the Community Presbyterian Church Tuesday, March 26, with the Rev. Walter T. Martin in charge of the rites.

Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
