RICHARD DANIEL SAMS 1863-1954

Funeral services were held at the Community Presbyterian Church on Monday at 2:00 p.m. for Richard D. Sams, 90, who passed away at Postville Hospital Friday. Rev. Walter T. Martin officiated. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

Richard Daniel Sams, son of James Sams and Charlotte Folsom Sams, was born near Versailles, Ripley county, Indiana, December 16, 1863, and passed away at the Postville Hospital Friday, September 17, 1954, at the age of 90 years, nine months and one day.

When two years of age he came with his parents and sister to Iowa and settled in Winneshiek county. After a few years they moved to a farm north of Postville which was the family home for many years.

Mr. Sams was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schnider, November 26, 1890. To this union was born a son, who passed away in infancy.

In 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Sams and his sister, Miss Stella Sams, moved to Postville which has been his home for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Standorf, Vina Mae and Julia Ann Sams. He leaves to mourn, his sister, Miss Stella Sams, several cousins and one uncle and a host of friends.
