GEORGE F. SANDER 1876-1958

Funeral services were held in St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana on Sunday, 2:00 p.m., for George F. Sander, who passed away January 29. The Rev. L. W. Reuther, pastor of St. John's, was in charge. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery in Luana.

George F. Sander, son of Christoph and Caroline Schultz Sander, was born May 24, 1876 in Springfield, Grand Meadow township, Clayton county. On September 17, 1876 he was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville and on April 10, 1892 was confirmed in the same church. The deceased spent the years of his youth in the vicinity of Postville.

On February 23, 1906 he was united in marriage with Miss Augusta Kamps. Three daughters were born to this union. Following marriage, they moved on a farm four miles east of Postville where he stayed three years; from there he moved to a farm one mile north of Hardin on which he lived 32 years. In 1949 he moved into his present home in Luana. Here for a number of years he was engaged in carpentering. He retired about six years ago.

Mr. Sander was a long time member of St. John's brotherhood. He suffered a stroke three weeks ago followed by a second stroke. He passed away on Thursday night, January 29, 11:35 p.m. having attained the age of 82 years, eight months and seven days.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Augusta Sander; three daughters, Mrs. Martha Heins of Postville, Mrs. Mable Gordon of Luana and Mrs. Dorothy Nuehring of Elkader; two brothers, Carl and Eldo of Postville; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Foels of Postville and Mrs. Mahala Meyer of Luana; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
