OTTO CONRAD SANDER 1882-1958

Otto Conrad Sander was born on September 14, 1882, near Postville, the son of Christoph Sander and his wife Caroline Schultz Sander. He passed away at the Postville Hospital on September 20, 1958, at the age of 76 years and six days. He had been a patient at the hospital for several weeks following a stroke.

He was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 5, 1896. He was married to Emelia Gericke of Postville on March 19, 1907. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Two children were born to this union, a son, Elmer of Postville, and a daughter, Senda, Mrs. Charles Hammel of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Mr. Sander was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville all of his life, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge of Postville. He was engaged in carpentry work for over 52 years in and near the Postville area, where the family has made their home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Walter and Conrad of Postville, and three sisters, Emma, Mrs. John Diederichs of Postville, Ida, Mrs. Charles Schutte of Postville, and Caroline, Mrs. Walter Muchow of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, his son, Elmer, his daughter, Senda, three brothers, Carl and Eldo of Postville and George of Luana, two sisters, Esther, Mrs. Albert Foels of Postville, and Mahala, Mrs. Louis Meyer of Luana, two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. (today) Wednesday afternoon, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville, with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Postville cemetery.
