Mrs. OTTO (Emelia Gericke) SANDER

Mrs. Otto Sander (Emelia Gericke), was born October 8, 1881 in Clayton Center, the daughter of John Gericke and his wife Marie Klinge Gericke. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Clayton Center on June 18, 1882. She was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on April 7, 1895.

She was married to Otto Sander on March 19, 1907. To this union were born two children, Elmer and Senda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in September, 1958; three sisters, Ida, Mrs. Chris Meyer of Postville, Bertha, Mrs. Wendell Wagner of Postville and Senda, Mrs. Asbjorn Morch of Postville; three brothers, Henry, William and Fred of Postville.

She is survived by her two children, Elmer of Postville and Senda, Mrs. Charles Hammel of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one brother, John Gericke of Postville; two sisters, Mathilda Gericke of Postville and Amanda, Mrs. William Sebastian of Postville; two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Sander was a confirmed member of St. Paul's for 64 years, and an honor roll member of the United Lutheran Church Women. She was a member of Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge.

She passed away suddenly while visiting in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She had been taken to the hospital on March 21 and passed away on March 22, at the age of 77 years, five months and 14 days.

Funeral services were held in St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 26, at 2:00. Burial was in the Postville cemetery with The Rev. Charles E. Witt officiating.
