ELMER CHRISTOPHER SANDER 1909-1988
Funeral services for Elmer Sander were held Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1988, 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Elmer Christopher Sander, son of Otto and Amelia (Gericke) Sander, was born May 5, 1909 at Postville, Iowa. He died Sunday evening, November 13, 1988 in Community Memorial Hospital.
He was baptized June 29, 1909 by Rev. R. Kuehne and confirmed September 2, 1923 by Rev. E. Schmidt, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. He graduated from Postville High School.
April 22, 1937 he married Gladys Christianson. The couple had 2 children. Elmer was a contractor and carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Senda Hammel. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, one son, Ronald and his wife, Jane, Crystal, MN, one daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Tom Brasseur, Tempe, AZ and three grandchildren, Thom Sander, Stephen and David Brasseur.
Elmer was a member of the Postville Fire Department for 10 years and active with the Boy Scouts for 38 years. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and also a 50 year member of the Odd Fellows. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Casket bearers were Arthur Messler, Carl Diederichs, Harlan Foels, A. Burr Cook, Lyle Sebastian, Milton Duvel, LeRoy Foels and Truman Paulson.
