Fred John Schave, son of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Schave [Henry Schave and Minnie Wedo], was born January 4, 1876 at Monona, and was baptized July 4, 1876 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center.
In 1900 he was united in marriage with Martha Karoline Rehberg. To this union were born six children, Rose, Mrs. Ed Dahms of Postville, Grace, Mrs. Alfred Lundt of Decorah, Marie, Mrs. Silas Kohrs of Evansdale, Mable, Arthur and a son, who died in infancy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, [Oct. 12, 1958], one daughter, Mable [Jan. 3, 1901], two sons, Arthur [Dec. 14, 1935], and an infant son [Benny Fred, Oct. 12, 1904], two sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ed Dahms, Mrs. Alfred Lundt and Mrs. Silas Kohrs, five brothers: John of Minneapolis, George of Decorah, William of Castalia, Charles of Castalia and Albert of Clermont, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mr. Schave passed away at the Good Samaritan nursing Home in West Union at the age of 83 years and 20 days on January 24, 1959. He had had surgery the previous week at the Palmer Memorial Hospital in West Union.
Funeral services were held in the Schutte Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 28 at 2:00, with the Rev. Charles E. Witt officiating. Burial was held in the Postville Cemetery.
