Harlan William Schultz

A funeral Mass for Harlan Schultz was held Wednesday, December 10, 1997, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville. Monsignor Ed Lechtenberg officiated. Kathy Fassbinder was the organist with special music by the St. Bridget Choir. Mary Ellen Day served as Lector, with Kyle Klepper and Jon Erickson as Mass Servers, Kellie Kerr and Sherrie Schultz as Gift Bearers and Matt Schultz and Debbie Schultz as Eucharistic Ministers. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery at Clermont, Iowa. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Harlan William Schultz, the son of Louis A. and Ella (Palas) Schultz, was born March 16, 1907, in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Luana, Iowa. He passed away Sunday, December 7, 1997, in Northgate Care Center at Waukon, Iowa. He had reached the age of 90 years, eight months and 21 days.

He was graduated from Luana Consolidated School and had attended one year at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, when his father died and he had to go home to help on the farm.

In 1933 Harlan was married to Lorette McGraw. To this union eight children were born. Harlan sold Catholic Order of Foresters Insurance for 30 years. During his lifetime he lived in Luana, Clermont and Cresco. For the last 12 years he had lived in Postville. He married Beulah (Harris) Meyer in 1978.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lorette, who died in 1975, two sons, Dale Schultz who died in 1983 and Harlan Schultz, Jr., who died in 1997, one brother, Ivon Schultz, one sister, Ada Todd, two grandchildren, one step-grandchild, one great grandchild and one step-daughter, Nancy (Meyer) Ulrich.

Surviving is his wife, Beulah, his children, William (Bill) Schultz and wife, Pat, of Marion, IA, Mary and husband, (Dave) Ryan, of Coral Springs, FL., Joy Aukofer of Wichita, KS, Jane and husband, Jim Anderson of Fallon, NV, John Schultz and wife, Diane, of North English, IA, and Paul Schultz of Waterloo, IA; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Berna Meyer of Arkansas, four step-daughters, Elaine and husband, Jim Rima, of Oquawka, IL, Pat and husband, Darwin Nieman, Karen Meyer, and Katie and husband, Sonny Kerr, all of Postville, and one step-son, Dennis Meyer and wife, Jane, of Waukon, other relatives and many friends.

Harlan was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading and playing cards.

Casket bearers were Kevin Kerr, Brad Porterfield, Donny Meyer, Craig Rima, Aaron Schultz and Matt Schultz.
