HERMIE SHERBONDA 1898-1982

Funeral services for Hermie Sherbonda, were held Wednesday, March 3, 1982 at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona with George Grover officiating.

Sherbonda was born on a farm near Volney in the Suttle Creek area on Nov. 30, 1898. He was the second son of Manuel Sherbonda and Laura Mitchell. He was married to Effie Fish of Decorah in 1929, and they had four children: Mrs. Helen (Floyd) Gettman of Luana; Donald, deceased in 1964; Mrs. Mary (David) Clarke of rural Waukon and Mrs. Ruth (Richard) Allen of Port Gibson, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his wife and their son Donald, his parents and his brother Leslie. He is survived by his daughters, one niece, Mrs. Rose Marie Buege, one grand-niece, Mrs. Tori Bissell, and a number of cousins.

Hermie worked for Interstate Power and other companies for 16 years as foreman in clearing timber right-of-ways in four states. He also carried the Star mail route from Postville to Lansing for four years and engaged in farming part of his life in the Postville area. In 1951 he was baptized as a member of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as a ministerial servant with the local congregation.
