Services were held Wednesday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona for Effie Sherbonda, Luana, with Donald Milbrandt officiating clergyman.
Effie Fish Sherbonda was born in Allamakee county, December 16, 1906. She was the second daughter born to George and Dora Fish. Effie was a graduate of the Decorah High School and a school teacher for six year.
In April of 1929 she married Hermie Sherbonda. They were parents of four children: Helen (Mrs. Floyd Gettman), Luana, Donald, deceased in 1964, Mary (Mrs. David Clarke), Waukon, and Ruth (Mrs. Richard Allen) of Port Gibson, Mississippi. Effie and her daughters, Ruth and Helen, operated the Luana Rest Home for seven years caring for the elderly. Failing health caused her to retire to her country home north of Luana in 1969. Effie was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1950 at New York City, New York. She was active in sharing in the work of the Witnesses.
Effie died at her home north of Luana, October 31, 1977, following a lingering illness. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, a brother, her parents and her son Donald. Surviving are her husband and three daughters, one nephew, Richard Fish of Monticello, one niece, Dora Mae Allman, Comanche, one aunt, Mrs. Dora Beal, Waukon, five grand nieces and one grand nephew. Interment was in the Monona City Cemetery, East Side.
