Carolyn Schave

Carolyn Marie (Monroe) Schave, formerly of Postville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2004 in Naples, Florida after a courageous and admirable fight with cancer at the age of 58 years and 11 days. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend to everyone who came to know her.

Carolyn was born in Postville, Iowa on February 10, 1946 to Alvin and Shirley [Sebastian] Monroe. She was joined 4 years later by a sister Diane. Carolyn went to school in Ossian and Postville.

Carolyn met and instantly fell in love with William (Bill) Schave and joined him in marriage on July 6, 1983. She became a step-mother to Bill's daughter, Amanda, who, along with Bill, will always admire and remember her for being the most loving mom, wife and companion anyone could ask for.

She was so skilled in many different crafts including knitting, sewing, cross-stitch, making dolls and much, much more. Her blankets, clothes, and dolls have touched families all over the US.

Carolyn has worked with and made many friends throughout her life at Ruby's Clothing Store, The Farmer's Store, Ginger's Restaurant, Casey's General Store and of course the family owned business of Schave's Redemption Center and Store. Her latest bunch of friends were made in Naples at the North Naples Wal-Mart fabric department.

Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband of 21 years, William Schave; daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Steve Rattigan (all of Naples, Florida); her mother Shirley Monroe (Postville, Iowa) and sister Diane Schulte (Waukon, Iowa). She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Monroe.

Anyone who ever came to know Carolyn Schave will remember a kind hearted, lovable, laughing, perfect soul and will miss her greatly, but will always treasure the memories that were made.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her name to The American Cancer Society.

Submitter note: Carolyn was the granddaughter of Albert Clark and Mari (Land) Monroe. She was also the daughter-in-law of Glen and Dorothy (Livingood) Schave.
