Funeral service for Henry Suckow was held Monday, July 6, 1987, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home, Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The organist was JoAnn Martins. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.

Henry George Suckow, son of Fred and Sophia (Schave) Suckow, was born March 31, 1905, in Winneshiek County, near Postville. He died Wednesday night, July 1, 1987, in the Northgate Care Center at Waukon. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Maynard.

Henry attended the rural schools near his home at Maynard. On July 2, 1934, he was united in marriage to Benita Mabb at Nashua. To this union two children were born. They began farming near West Union, moving to the home farm near Castalia, soon after. In 1960 they moved to Postville. Henry had been employed by Earl Ruckdashel Trucking and later as a night watchman for the Hygrade Meat Packing Company.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Jolene, four brothers, one in infancy, Alphie, Charles and Lester and a sister, Esther (Mrs. Merlin Bochman). Surviving are a son, Kenneth and his wife, Donna, Castalia; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Leighton Smith, Postville; eight grandchildren: David, Debra and Brenda Brainard, Gayla Smith, Kalene McNally, Colleen and Mark Suckow and Jaylene Morano; five great grandchildren: Matthew and Brian Brainard, Melissa and Mandy McNally, and Jennifer Morano; two brothers: Otto and his wife, Joyce, Waterloo, Helmuth, Oelwein, and three sisters: Viola Ihde, Monona, Ruth and her husband, Henry Helgerson, Postville, and Ruby Mabb, West Union.

Casket bearers were Ernest Helgerson, Myron Ihde, Raymond Suckow, Karl Rae Suckow, Ralph Suckow, Terry McNally.
