Funeral services for Mabel Suckow were held Monday, Oct. 3, 1983 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Mabel Emma Suckow, daughter of Henry and Anna (Harnack) Mohs, was born Sept. 11, 1906 at Lime Springs, IA. She died Friday, Sept. 30, 1983 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville. She was baptized Oct. 20, 1906 in Lime Springs, and confirmed March 20, 1921 at Owatonna, MN. She attended school at Ellendale, MN.
On Sept. 24, 1924 she was married to Richard P. Suckow at the home of her parents in Postville. They farmed in the Waukon and Postville area until 1957 when they moved to Postville. She had been employed at Community Memorial Hospital for a short time. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxilliary.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and five brothers, Arno, Bill, Elmer, Harvey and Lawrence. Surviving are three sons, Harold E. Mohs and M. Delbert Suckow, Postville, and Dwayne M. Suckow, Tripoli, IA; a stepson, Willis F. Suckow, Cedar Rapids; three stepdaughters, LaVanda (Mrs. Lloyd Thornton), Waterloo; Verda Mae (Mrs. Clarence Schnuelle), Waukon; and Velma Louise (Mrs. Leo L. Miner), Cedar Rapids; many grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a brother, Harry Mohs, Waterloo, and two sisters, Florence Froning, Waverly, and Leona Schultz, Madison, WI.
