Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 3, 1974 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for Richard P. Suckow who died May 31, 1974 at the Mitchell County Hospital, Osage, Iowa. He was visiting a son Dwayne to assist in his moving from McIntire to North Washington, when he suffered a heart attack. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Richard P. Suckow, son of Herman and Louise Koch Suckow, was born July 5, 1890 on a farm in Read Township, Clayton County. He was baptized August 10, 1890 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clayton Center and confirmed March 27, 1904 by the Rev. F. W. Seifert, in the same church. He was married to Sophie Mecklenberg in 1915. She preceded him in death in February, 1923. On September 24, 1924, he was united in marriage to Mabel E. Mohs at the home of her parents. They farmed in the Waukon and Postville area until 1957 when they moved to Postville. He had also been employed at the Community Memorial hospital and Wayne Poultry Co. in Postville. The past few years he had been pursuing his woodworking hobbies which included the building of many grandfather clocks. The couple had planned to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary in September of this year.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Emma and Louise. Survivors include his wife, three sons, M. Delbert of Postville, Dwayne M. of North Washington and Willis F. of Cedar Rapids; a stepson, Harold E. Mohs, Postville; three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Lavanda) Thornton, Hawkeye; Mrs. Clarence (Verda Mae) Schnuelle, Waukon; Mrs. Leo L. (Velma Louise) Miner, Cedar Rapids; 30 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
