MERLYN R. SUNDERMEYER 1949-1994

Merlyn R. Sundermeyer, son of Martin and Ethel (Scovel) Sundermeyer, was born April 17, 1949 in Manchester, Iowa. He died March 29, 1994 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East. He was 44.

He was raised in Delaware, and graduated from Maquokta Valley, Delhi, in 1967. He married Becky Fjelstul on Sept. 2, 1973 in Delaware, Iowa.

He obtained his bachelor's degree in management from the University of Northern Iowa in 1976. He worked 20 years in retail grocery stores, including three years as manager of the Farmer's Store in Postville. He was very active in civic and service organizations, including various school and church groups, including the Commercial Club and the Optimist Club in Postville.

Merlyn was an avid Cubs fan, and enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and bike riding. He currently served on the board of finance at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, and was secretary/treasurer of the Early Risers Bowling League.

He is preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Survivors include his wife Becky Sundermeyer of Mason City; two sons, Eric and Chad Sundermeyer, both of Mason City; one daughter, Dyan Sundermeyer of Mason City; his mother, Ethel Sundermeyer of Delaware; two brothers, Richard Sundermeyer and his wife Linda of Marion and Roger Sundermeyer and his wife Charlotte, of Center Point; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 1 at Bethlehem Lutheran church, Mason City, with Rev. Frederick Wood officiating. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery.
