Funeral services for Benita Suckow were held Tuesday, August 23, 1988, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated, assisted by Rev. Charles W. Miller. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
Benita Louina Suckow, daughter of Thomas and Blanche (Duby) Mabb, was born April 15, 1914 in Fayette County, near Hawkeye, Iowa. She died Friday, August 19, 1988 in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, Iowa.
She was baptized in the Methodist Church at West Union, in 1929. In 1936 she was confirmed and joined the Lutheran Church. July 2, 1934 she married Henry George Suckow at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. The couple had 2 children. They began farming near West Union, moving to the home farm near Castalia soon after. In 1960 they moved to Postville. Benita was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Henry, a granddaughter, Jolien Suckow, 3 brothers, Lyle, Dwain and Ray and 2 sisters, Gladys Schott and Nellie Kinsel.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth and his wife, Donna, of Castalia, a daughter, Linda, and her husband, Leighton Smith of Postville, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several cousins.
Casket Bearers: David Brainard, Mark Suckow, Paul Morano, Terry McNally, Mervil Mabb and Willis Zoellers.
