ORVILLE ELMER WILLIAM WEIHE 1913-1984

Rites Held For Orville Weihe

Funeral services for Orville Weihe were held Friday, Jan. 13, 1984 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Orville Elmer William Weihe, son of John C. and Caroline (Meyer) Weihe, was born July 14, 1913 on the family farm in Grand Meadow Township. He died Jan. 10, 1984 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville. He was baptized Sept. 14, 1913 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and confirmed there on Aug. 21, 1927.

Orville was a graduate of Postville Community Schools and Carthage College in Illinois. He served in the U. S. Army from 1943 to 1946 and was an insurance salesman most of his career, most recently a sales representative for John Hancock Life Insurance, Cedar Rapids. He had been a resident of Cedar Rapids for more than 30 years. In July, 1983 he moved to Postville to be with his family. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, transferring to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville in 1983. He was a member of the Optimist International and National Audubon Society chapter in Cedar Rapids, the American Legion and the Postville Historical Society. He was a volunteer for the Service Corps of Retired Executives, sponsored by the Small Business Administration.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Florence, in infancy and a brother, the Rev. LeRoy Weihe. Surviving are two brothers, Clarence H., Postville and the Rev. Clifton M. Weihe, Santa Maria, CA, and a sister, Mrs. Viola Schultz, Postville.
