Rites Held For L. Schroeder

Funeral services for Lloyd Schroeder were held Monday, May 23, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Lloyd G. F. Schroeder, son of John A. and Amanda (Oldag) Schroeder, was born February 8, 1910 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He died May 19, 1983 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

He was baptized on March 22, 1910 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. R. Kuhne and confirmed there on September 2, 1923 by the Rev. E. Schmidt. He received his education in Grand Meadow School No. 7.

On April 2, 1930 he was married to Clara Duwe. To this union five children were born. They farmed two miles southeast of Postville from 1930 until September of 1951. Lloyd sold insurance from 1941 until 1980, when he retired.

Lloyd was a member of and held the following offices: Director and Treasurer of the Grand Meadow School District; Mayor and J. P. of the Town of Postville from 1955 to 1962; Director and Treasurer of the Postville Packing Co.; Director and Vice President of Farmers Mutual Ins. Assn. of Garnavillo; Secretary and President of Allamakee and Clayton Co. Underwriting Assoc.; Chairman of Allamakee Co. Democrats; Past Master of Brotherly Love Lodge No 204; Past Worthy Patron of O. E. S. Postville Chapter No 238; Member of Consistory, Shrine, 32 Degree Mason and Shrine Clowns; President of P. W. P.; President of the Tri-City Golf Club; a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the church Council for eight years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Leo in 1955 and a brother in infancy.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth of Huxley, IA, Keith of Winton, CA, and Wayne of Postville, a daughter, Mrs. George (Marian) Friederich of Postville, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a sister, Violet Jollymore of Naples, FL.
