John C. "Jack" Jones

John Charley "Jack" Jones was born to parents Andrew and Floy Clawson Jones on June 24, 1929 in rural Harpers Ferry, the seventh of 12 children. He died on Friday, May 1, 1992 at his home in rural Harpers Ferry. He was 62.

He served for a short time in the Army before receiving an honorable discharge in 1952. He married Florence Lucille Behning on July 16, 1955 at Harpers Ferry. They had three sons and four daughters.

Jack worked in logging, farming, for the Conservation Commission, and in his earthmoving business. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and family activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Pearl Hamm, Helen Brown and Lorraine Hamm.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; three sons, John Steven of Waterville, Calvin Andrew of Waukon, and Todd Joseph of McGregor; four daughters, Linda Moreland and Karen Houg of McGregor, Mary Jane Smith of Monona, and Pamela Jean Nading of Harpers Ferry; 20 grandchildren; four brothers, Carlton of Waterville, Dayton and Milton (Bill) of Harper's Ferry, and Leon of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Irene Benzing of Gays Mills, Wis., Ruth Hamm of Sherrill, Iowa, Vera Redalen of Fountain, Minn., Janet Miller of Hills, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 4, 1992 at 2 p.m. at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, Father Louis Trzil officiated. Pallbearers were Marlin Jones, Glen Jones, Andre Jones, Brett Jones, Kevin Behning, and Howard Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Benzing and Leo Livingston. Burial was in Sixteen Cemetery, rural Monona. Military services were held by Harpers Ferry American Legion Post 722. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of the service.
