Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements. Louise Marie Bieber was born January 15, 1910, to Peter and Anna (Kiesau) Bieber on a farm joining the east city limits of Waukon, Allamakee County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ. After recovering from a bout with polio at the age of four, she started school and graduated from Waukon High School in the Normal Training curriculum in 1927. Being too young to get a teacher's certificate, she spent a year working on the farm. From 1928 to 1942 she taught at several of the rural schools around Waukon, and spent some summers taking courses at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Following that she took a position teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth grades at the Indian School in Neillsville, Wis., for three years. In 1945 she returned to the home farm where she worked until 1954, often receiving livestock in lieu of wages. In 1958 she purchased a house and moved to Waukon where she substitute taught, worked as a clerk at Quandahl Hardware and Ford Garage, and was a receptionist at Veterans Memorial Hospital. She moved back to the farm in 1971. Louise was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ serving as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, treasurer, historian, and Bible School Teacher. She was also a member of the Allamakee County Historical Society, Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Waukon Women's Civic Club (Wa-Tan-Ye), and did numerous volunteer jobs throughout the community. She enjoyed knitting, crochet, photography, and playing cards. She also enjoyed traveling, having been to 45 states and Europe. She was a history buff and spent time researching genealogy and compiling a family history. Louise liked to attend community events and was a faithful visitor to many friends at the area nursing homes. Survivors include three nephews, Peter (Lillian), James (Sue), and Willard (Marsha) Bieber, and a niece, Joan Bieber, all of Waukon. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Peter W. Bieber; a nephew, Richard Bieber; and a grand-nephew, Nathan Bieber.
