George F. Jones

Memorial services were held on March 27, 1973, at Schultz Funeral Home in Monona for George F. Jones, who passed away at Veterans' Memorial Hosp., in Waukon on March 24, 1973.

Rev. R. Pacholke of the United Methodist Church officiated. The pallbearers were all grandsons; Harry Jones, Roger Sawvell, Merle Boland, Harley Jones, Henry Jones and Dennis Dundee. Interment was in the Rossville cemetery.

George F. Jones, son of Frank and Viola Sutter Jones, was born May 29, 1888, in South Dakota.

He was united in marriage to Lydia Wachter in 1916 and there were five children born to this union; Harold, who was killed in World War II; Herman of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; and three daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Helen) Sawvell of Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. Leo (Harriet) Fish of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and Mrs. Earl (Hazel) Hansen, of Marquette, Iowa.

George farmed in the Harpers Ferry area almost all of his life, until he retired in 1960, when he moved to Waukon Junction.

He was preceded in death by his parents, His wife, one son, two sisters and one brother.

He leaves to remember him, his four children, three brothers, Milo of Harpers Ferry, Leo of Waterville and Earl of Woodman, Wis.; two sisters, Jessie Wallace and Ruth Ransdell of Akron, Ohio; 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
