Funeral services were conducted at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Thursday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. for Frederick W. Jahncke who died at his home in Postville, Monday, August 22. The Rev. David Nelson officiated.
Born November 1, 1896, near Postville in Clayton County, he was the son of Chris and Sophia Honn Jahncke. In May, 1897 he was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He served in the U. S. Army during World War 1 from September, 1918 to March, 1919. Most of his life was in the Postville area where he worked as a carpenter and in railroad maintenance. He retired in 1961.
December 2, 1920, he was united in marriage to Floy Candee. She preceded him in death as did two brothers, Harry and Edward and two sisters, Mrs. William (Emma) Schwartz and Mrs. John (Katie) Hoppes.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Ethel Mae) Pearson, Chicago, Illinois; two sons, Donald, Moline, Illinois and Elbert, Postville; a grandson, Richard Pearson, Chicago, Illinois and two brothers, Alvin, Oelwein and Vern of Webster City.
Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
