Clement Aloysius Byrnes, 83, of Waukon died Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at Veterans Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Hanover Cemetery, rural Waukon, with arrangements by Martin Funeral Home.
Clem was born Aug. 16, 1914 to Larry and Nora (Zoll) Byrnes on their farm in the Hanover area, rural Dorchester. He attended Hanover #3 rural school and Immaculate Conception High School in Lansing.
Aug. 26, 1941, he married Jeanne Delaney at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. Clem spent his working life farming in Hanover until 1975 when they moved to Waukon. He also drove a school bus for 10 years.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Matthew's Council of Knights of Columbus, and served as a Hanover Township Trustee and on the rural fire board for many years.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Robert Kobusch, and Noreen and Vince Koch, all of Cedar Rapids, and Connie and Mitch Harmsen of Oxceloa, two sons and their wives, Dale and Celeste of Trinity, NC and Jim and Pat of Dorchester, 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two sister, Anita and her husband, Charles Murphy, and Phyliss Haler of Waukon, three brothers, Garland and wife Mary and Vic of Waukon, and Mark and wife Bernice of Phoenix, AZ and two sisters-in-law, Catherine Byrnes of Waukon and Mary Kay Byrnes of Florida.
Clem was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Steinhart, Gladys Quillin, and two in infancy; three brothers, Lawerence, Patrick and Francis, and five grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Robb and Mike Kobusch, Heath, Dustin and Nicholas Byrnes, Travis Bulman, Kin Watts and Karen Koch.
