12 - Year - Old Injured In 'Crack the Whip'
WAUKON, Ia. -- Twelve-year-old Joyce Ann Stock, of near Waukon, was fatally injured Thursday while playing "crack the whip" with a group of playmates attending summer Bible school classes at Salem Reformed Church, west of Waukon.
Joyce was on the end of the line when the youngsters cracked the whip and she fell, hitting her head on a rock. The injury did not appear serious at first and she made no complaints until later in the day when she mentioned feeling pains in her head.
She was taken to a Waukon doctor's office where she blacked out and died a short time later.
Joyce was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stock, who farm in Ludlow Township, west of Waukon. She is survived by her parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stock and Mrs. Herman Hansmeier, all of Ludlow Township.
Services have been set tentatively for Saturday afternoon from the Martin Brothers Funeral Home to Salem Reformed church. The Rev. Walter Clausing will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
