Final Rites For Esther Kenney
Funeral services for Esther Kenney, 94, were held Tuesday, Sept. 18, 1984 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Rev. Reuben Tjaden officiated. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
Esther Winifred Kenney, daughter of James R. and Amanda Jane (Harris) Laughlin, was born Feb. 6, 1890 on a farm northeast of Postville. She died Sept. 16 at the Grandview Care Center in Oelwein.
She attended the Minert school, graduating from Postville high school in 1907 and was a graduate of the Capitol City Commercial College in Des Moines.
Sept. 5, 1912 she was united in marriage with Klearence E. Kenney at the home of her parents. To this union four sons were born. They farmed until 1944 when Klearence began to work on electrical construction projects in many parts of the country. In 1963 they retired to Waukon. She has been a resident of The Grandview Care Center in Oelwein for the past four years.
She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, a 50-year member of Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.
She is preceded in death by her husband who died Sept. 12, 1977, a son, Carlton Edward, a granddaughter, and two sisters, Mildred Meier and Helen Chamberlain.
Surviving are three sons, J. Robert, Hazleton, William O., Edgewood, and John A., Fontana, WI, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a sister, Bernice Walter, Springfield, IL.
