Francis "Chip" Walleser, age 85, of Lansing, died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday, November 17 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home, Lansing, was in charge of arrangements. Chip was born in Garnavillo, Iowa, November 30, 1917, to John J. and Anna Henrietta (Berns) Walleser. He married Mildred Busta September 5, 1970 in Cresco, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2000. Early in his life, Chip logged the area islands and later farmed, sold seed corn, and also worked road construction. Throughout his life, he trapped and hunted. During retirement, Chip enjoyed gardening, especially red raspberries, asparagus, and butternut squash, which were his pride and joy. Chip also enjoyed having coffee with his friends. Survivors include seven siblings, Stan (Velma) Walleser of De Soto, Wis., Alice Griffin of Dayton, Ohio, Lawrence "Duke" (Esther) Walleser of Lansing, Willi (Gerald) Finkral of Meadow Grove, Neb., Isabelle (Bud) Hawes of Lansing, Phyllis (Lou) Kimsey of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Colleen (Del) Brown, also of Ft. Collins; and 75 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; four siblings, Edwin on May 4, 1997, Bill on November 29, 2002, Helen Freiburger on February 25, 2003, and Louis Walleser on March 10, 2003; and also by six nieces and nephews, Larry, Duane, Joe, Scott, Mary Kay, and Theresa Walleser.
