Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. last Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for Mrs. Minnie Welzel, 82, who passed away at her home here last Wednesday, January 28.

The rites were in charge of Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

Minnie Maria Johanna Busaker Welzel, daughter of Henry J. J. G. Busaker and Dorthea Brandtmann Busaker, was born August 12, 1869, at Grebs, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, and departed this life on January 28, 1951, at her late home in Postville, aged 82 years.

Mrs. Welzel was received into membership in the St. Paul's congregation of Postville on March 18, 1883.

Mrs. Welzel was united in marriage with Conrad Welzel of Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, on May 31, 1888. To this union two children were born, both of whom survive the passing of their mother.

At the early age of four, Mrs. Welzel accompanied her parents, her brother, Henry, and her sister, Emma, from their native Germany to the United States. The family home was established in the vicinity of Garnavillo. The following year the family moved to a farm south of Luana, where Mrs. Welzel spent the next several years of her life.

Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Welzel established their home on the farm of Mr. Welzel's parents. Here they remained for 15 years. Following this Mr. and Mrs. Welzel purchased a farm near Postville, where they lived 23 years. They retired to Postville in 1926, and Mr. Welzel departed this life the following year, July 29, 1927. Mrs. Welzel continued to make her home in Postville until her death.

Left to mourn her passing are her two children; Sabina, Mrs. Otto Oldag, of Postville, and Malinda, Mrs. Damond Meyer, of Castalia; one grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Welzel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Henry; one sister, Mrs. W. J. H. Schultz.
